Game Boy Camera photos to PC

Recently I bought a used french version of the Mega Memory Card, this one only differs from the ordinary yellow transparent version that is more common in that it is black and not transparent.

This little(big) thing has the ability to backup saves from any Game Boy game and store it. You can then put the saves back into games. I’m using this cartridge to backup the save file from my Game Boy Camera and then restoring the save into my 64MB EMS USB cartridge that will allow me to put the images onto my computer. I got the tip to do this from this thread on ChipMusic.org. Here’s a little guide for you if you want do do this yourself:

How to get images from Game Boy Camera to a PC:

Using a Mega Memory Card:

  1. Take pictures with your Game Boy Camera.
  2. Backup the Game Boy Camera .sav-file onto the Mega Memory cartridge.
  3. Restore the Game Boy Camera .sav-file onto a USB cartridge of you choice. Examples: Bleep Bloop USB, EMS 64 (Get one here or here)
  4. Connect you USB cartridge to a PC and transfer the .sav-file using the cartridge’s transfer program.
  5. Upload the .sav-file to this website: http://gieskes.nl/gameboy-camera/sav-converter/. When uploaded you will see a .gif-animation of all your photos and if you click on it you can download a .zip-archive containing all of the images in .bmp-format. (There is also a downloadable program for doing this called GBCameraDump but I do not know a good place to download it from. I do however have the program and if you want it I’d gladly send it to you.) The last option of getting the images out of the .sav is to simply put itĀ in a Game Boy emulatorĀ together with a Game Boy Camera rom and then take a screen shot.

Using a Bleep Bloop or SmartBoy USB Programmer:

  1. Take pictures with your Game Boy Camera.
  2. Simply put the Game Boy Camera into your USB Programmer and transfer the .sav-file onto your computer. (This is by far the best way to get your pictures to a PC but the programmers are currently discontinued and were produced in a very low number, so if you happen to find it used or already have it in you possession then good for you.)
  3. Repeat step 5 in the previous tutorial.

There’s also the old option of using a Mad Catz Camera Link that connects to a parallel port on a PC using the link port on a Game Boy. This only works if your computer have a parallel port of course.

Enjoy the low resolution.

It’s wonderful that you are letting your kids take part of the technologies of old! Game Boys are amazing in that way that they never stop to function, they will probably still be around for my great grand children haha. I afraid the link you provided though does not link to a specific picture.
